Train with Grain

Is there a company that you love? One that keeps on doing amazing things that make you love them more and more? Like that guy who you meet, who turns out to like bike racing too, and who you find out to share your values (even the esoteric ones), and you wonder how you got so lucky?

Bob's Red Mill is that company for me. I started by eating their Steel Cut Oats in school. High-quality, wholesome, and easy-to-procure products made me a fan. Fast-forward a couple years to when I started eating vegan. I discovered that Bob's made a pancake mix that also happened to be vegan (many include milk powder), making my weekend mornings exciting all of a sudden (and allowing to me to woo a bike racing boy with blueberry pancakes.) A few months later, I was racing my bike in Portland, Oregon at the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships. I walked around the venue in awe of their cyclocross scene and soon my belly was growling. Well, Bob's was there for me then! I was so excited that Bob's liked cyclocross too! It was a natural partnership—many of the racers I know base a disturbing about of their training and racing rituals around steel-cut oats—but was one of the first non-endemic partners I saw at a bike expo that really made sense. Then, this fall, I lined up to race at the Boulder Cup against (well, perhaps behind) one Mo Bruno Roy, who Bob's Red Mill made the genius decision of sponsoring. Right on, I thought.

Finally, this arrived in the mail today.

Bob Red Mill's Train with Grain program sent me this care package with some samples and an armband to wear at the rest of the cyclocross races this season. Seeing Bob's Red Mill support cyclocross at all levels makes me fall in love even more.

Enough blubbering, you get the point: I'm smitten. Totally in love. Now—off to turn some quinoa into a delicious vegan dinner.
